Nouveau Décor is a small business with a passion for attention to detail, thorough preparation, clean working practises, and high standards of health and safety. I have recently become a sole trader, although I am exploring the benefits of appointing a carefully selected sub-contractor and trainee to give greater flexibility and reduce completion times where this is a requirement for my customers. Through 40 years of decorating trade experience, I have built a reputation for professionalism, consistently high standards, and excellent knowledge of materials.
I am enthusiastic about the materials I use, which are principally natural and traditional paints. I believe in using materials that have true eco credentials, and which give a durable and cosmetically pleasing finish that works in sympathy with historic properties. These materials also protect the existing building fabric by providing unparalleled breathability. True period colours and finishes enhance the aesthetic appearance and retain the character of the property.
Predominantly, I use linseed paint products for exterior work, as I have confidence in their ability to achieve a high quality and durable finish. For interior finishes, I opt for high quality natural emulsions, clay paints and water and oil eggshells, which are made from the finest natural ingredients.
Preparation is the key to achieving a long lasting and visually pleasing finish, and is just as important as the finishing coat. The extent of preparation should not be compromised, however this can be tailored to the individual customer’s budget and requirements. I ensure I use compatible materials throughout to achieve the best result for the customer, and I have a preference for natural paint removers, fillers and primers. For me, using impermeable synthetic products is not an option. Natural products bring the benefit of a healthier working environment; they are good for health, good for the environment, and good for the building.
I have devoted time to carefully research the products I rely on to ensure they are of the highest quality and suitable for the period and listed properties I have worked on. When it comes to colour and texture, they possess an individual intensity and character which cannot be replicated. In addition to their charm and appeal, these products are historically accurate for any period project from a rural cottage to a large country house.
